MOTARASU gathers Japanese and Danish designers into one brand, emphasizing their common design styles and traditions. Like many designers before, Mikkel was inspired by the distinctive aesthetics of Japanese design. But rather than pulling from these inspirations passively, Mikkel strove to change the status quo (“motarasu” means ‘to change’ in Japanese), and unite designers from Denmark and Japan to create contemporary design together. Art and nature inform their designs, resulting in poetic, tactile and functional objects that bring joy.
