Founded in 2002, Japanese master designer, Yohji Yamamoto partnered with the German sportswear giant, Adidas, with the desire to make sportswear elegant and chic. This specific take on contemporary sportswear came with an emphasis on form and movement, along with an inherent technicality. "The “Y” stands for Yohji Yamamoto, the “3” represents Adidas’ three signature stripes and the “-“ signifies the bond between the two". Together, they continue to mold the future of sportswear, creating a new category within fashion by combining Yamamoto’s trademark aesthetics and skilled Japanese tailoring with the sportswear expertise of Adidas.

Inspired by aviation, Y-3’s Autumn/Winter 15’ collection explores "the nostalgia for flights past and the promise of its future". Yamamoto revisits the classic air force outfit referencing flight silhouettes along with a military colour palette to match.
