A loose fitting, cropped jacket cut from a heavy, European horse hide in black. Features a classic collar, eliptical cut-out pocket openings, the signature German toggle fasteners, and an easy swung back for added movement. Constructed by a single artisan in Tochigi, each panel is painstakingly selected for different portions of the jacket, requiring softer panels in certain regions for comfort and stiffer panels for durability through the body. Completed with a full lining in a super high density nylon plain weave providing both durability and a smooth surface for ease of wear.
The Black Hide is produced in Himeji, Japan using hides sourced from Europe as a by-product of the meat industry. Shinki Leather employs a traditional vegetable tanned process employing large pits of natural tannins and long soaking periods. After tanning the hide is dried, cured, and polished to expose the rich, supple grain of the horse hide while retaining its durable, hard wearing hand.
