Made in collaboration with Rikiya Matsumura, Gear-2 is a large messenger bag inspired by Royal Mail delivery bags. This edition is cut from MAN-TLE’s heat treated nylon in a dark, navy tinged grey. Features their german made pull-toggle fasteners at the closure, large twin patch pockets at the front for easy access of small essentials and a padded laptop sleeve at the interior. Completed with an adjustable padded nylon strap featuring no-slip, laser-cut aluminum buckles and durable bound seam construction for MAN-TLE’s signature hard wearing finish.
MAN-TLE’s nylon cloth is produced in Fukui, Japan in close collaboration with a local mill. The cloth is boiled in a chloride solution, causing it to shrink permanently, producing the characteristic crinkled surface and a tighter weave that imparts structural water resistance. Both the technique and appearance of the cloth pay homage to traditional techniques used in the production of Japanese Obi belts wherein silk is boiled in sea water.
