Lot 324 USMD Convalescent Jacket Mud Dyed

A relaxed fitting, snap front jacket cut from a sturdy, high density cotton sateen in a rich mud-dyed brown. Based on standard issue jackets provided to recovering US soldiers in hospitals, the minimal detailing with a sharp collar and welted hand pockets is emblematic of the functional elegance often seen in military garments. Subtly dropped shoulders shift volume to the sides while the banded waist anchors the silhouette, allowing it to sit slightly away from the body at the hem. Constructed using chain stitched, flat felled seams throughout for a long lasting finish that leaves an encased interior; gunmetal tone hardware throughout.

Each garment is dyed one by one, by hand, in the iron rich muds of Amami Oshima Island, producing a rich deep brown. The fabric surface is initially quite stiff and crisp, but softens with age as the colour begins to fade. Use caution when wearing with lighter coloured fabrics, some colour transfer may occur.
