Why mess with a classic? Sometimes it just needs a little something extra. And cucumber adds just the right amount of something to the gin. The secret is to use a vegetable peeler to get those beautiful long ribbons that are showcased so nicely in a tall glass.

2oz gin
Tonic
Lime wedge
Cucumber ribbons

Place a few ice cubes into the bottom of the glass, top with cucumber ribbons. Pour in the gin and top with tonic water. Serve with a lime wedge and enjoy refreshment.

On a hot day of solo reading in the sun, a beverage to cut through the heat is necessary. Why not use nature’s resources and make sun tea? We like the tart flavour of hibiscus paired with lemon slices and perhaps a hint of sparkling water, if it’s at hand.

Hibiscus tea leaves
Lemon slices
Sparkling water (optional)

Set the hibiscus into a clear glass pitcher or jar with water. Leave to steep in the sun for a few hours or until the desired strength is reached. Pour into a glass with ice, add lemon slices and sparkling water, if using.

A perfect savory addition is the michelada. Salty, spicy, and just plain good.

Mexican beer
Worchestershire sauce
Lime juice
Hot Sauce
Salt, mixed with chili if you like

Use a lime wedge to wet the rim of the glass, then dip in salt. Add a few ice cubes to the bottom of the glass, and your own personal mix of Worchestershire sauce, hot sauce and lime juice. Add the beer and enjoy.

Prosecco

In a shaker, muddle 2 strawberries well. Add a touch of sugar if they are tart. Add the Aperol and grapefruit juice, ice cubes, and shake well. Strain into glasses, adding new ice if desired. Top with prosecco and a grapefruit slice.
