Issey Miyake : Making Things
An exhibition catalog of innovative garments. Miyake created a new dynamic between cloth and the body, reinterpreting traditional Japanese textile techniques and garment construction through a highly imaginative lens. Twisted, crushed and crumpled to create pleating reminiscent of Japanese lanterns, these ‘sculptures’ were a departure point for his signature wrapped and layered ready-to-wear clothes. A survey of the entire course of Miyake’s career by Kazuko Sato is accompanied by interviews with Miyake about his artistic progress and philosophy. Photographer Raymond Meier presents 50 colour photographs from the exhibition in Paris in this concise retrospective on one of today's most important designers.
