The Turvy Compass Pocket Jacket features a unique construction with shirttails that have been rotated 90 degrees along its circumference. This results in the split “side” seams of the jacket ending up at the front and back while the curved front and back panels end up situated at its sides. The spacious pockets that run along the entire width of the body are drawn with a compass and then folded in half, resulting in a semicircular shape with ample storage space and added durability. The medium-weight cotton twill fabric is woven with a weft stripe of Japanese rope-dyed indigo yarn, pushed to the surface of the cloth forming a raised stripe on the face only. This motif takes from traditional British butcher’s aprons which are navy blue with an evenly spaced white stripe. Here the colours are inverted, and over time the indigo yarn will fade and bleed slightly into the cloth around it to make the fabric subtler and more personal. Finished with a cotton satin-lined body, olive buttons, copper rivets, and finally treated with a turmeric overdye for brilliant depth of colour.
